NUS Sheares Hall: Project Sawasdee

What's this?

Project Sawasdee is an Overseas Community Service Project (OCSP) initiated by NUS Sheares Hall in its sixth year running, in conjunction with Chiang Mai YMCA and Youth Expedition Project by National Youth Council (YEP). Our committee of 22 members will be embarking on a 2 1⁄2 weeks journey to Sanpatong in Chiang Mai. This project aims to help construct sanitation facilities for Sanpatong School and provide basic education for the students there. Sanpatong School is a small school that offers education to students from kindergarten to primary level. With more than half of the students living in mountainous areas, it is an arduous journey for them to attend school. As a result, they are relocated to the school dormitory to improve their access to education. However, the sanitation facilities and the dormitory provided for these students are extremely worn out and some are not suitable for use at all as the school lacks fund to repair and maintain it. This is where we can step in to help support the school with the necessary funds to improve their sanitation amenities and at the same time, build memorable friendships and exchange cultures with the students there.
